The Identification and Isolation of Two Mouse-toxic Protein Components in Extracts from Pasteurella Pestis

The toxin activity of Pasteurella pestis cells, strain "Tjiwidej," was found to be associated with two proteins. Using a disc electrophoresis technique in conjunction with mouse lethality, two toxic proteins were isolated exhibiting intraperitoneal LD(50)'s of less than 1.0 to 1.5 microg protein. Each produced a single characteristic precipitin band on agar gel diffusion plates. The slower migr...

Pesticinogeny: a characteristic useful for presumptive identification and isolation of Pasteurella pestis.

Current methods of identifying Pasteurella pestis rely heavily on tests specific for detecting fraction I, the envelope antigen. Pesticin I, a bacteriocin inhibitory for P. pseudotuberculosis, has been demonstrated in nearly all tested strains isolated from human infections. The results of using this characteristic as an identifying trait for P. pestis were compared with results reported for de...

Production of Pasteurella pestis toxin.

In the course of the development of a casein hydrolyzate mineral glucose medium for the growth of Pasteurella pestis, strain A1122, for the production of the envelope antigen (Englesberg and Levy, 1954), the potential use of this medium for plague toxin production became apparent. The development of a simplified method for the production of plague toxin made possible by this medium will be desc...

Molecular Typing of Avian Pasteurella multocida lsolatesby PCR-RFLPof ompH Gene

Molecular typing of twenty-five Pasteurella multocida isolates has been assessed by restriction fragmentlength polymorphism (RFLP) of a species-specific PCR assay. Amplification was based on the gene ompH, encoding a major outer memberane protein. RFLP analysis of the 1.2 kb ompH-amplification usingEcoRI, HindIII and CfoI endonucleases produced 7 different patterns for the twenty fi...
